Julie Plec has suggested that Joseph Morgan will return for the fourth season of The Vampire Diaries.

On the third season finale, Morgan's character Klaus appeared to burst into flames when he was staked by Alaric. However, at the end of the episode, his soul was found to be intact inside Tyler's (Michael Trevino) body. The executive producer has now revealed that Klaus's body is also fine.

 "I'd say there's a fairly significant chance, if not a 99.9% likelihood that body did not burn up in that coffin," Plec told Zap2it.

Plec went on to say that viewers will see Klaus enjoy the perks of being in Tyler's body - namely, being in a relationship with Candice Accola's Caroline - before going back to his own.

"He's definitely going to prolong his stay, at least in the first episode, due to circumstance," she said. "Whatever goes down between Caroline and 'Tyler' in the first episode will actually be happening between Caroline and Klaus, so we'll have some fun there."

The executive producer previously revealed that the finale's twist had been in the works for two years.

The Vampire Diaries was renewed for a fourth season on May 3.
