H Kayla Ewell μιλαει στο Entertainment Central για την συγκλονιστικη επιστροφη της στο Vampire Diaries καθως και για την επερχομενη ταινια της...
So am I, thank you! We tried really hard to keep it a secret. I read the article in The Post with Kevin Williamson and they had all of these things that they would say if we were spotted in Atlanta. They really had all things planning out. For me, my brother and sister are in college and are big Twitter and Facebook people. I was very nervous that they would say something, so I didn’t even tell them until right before. I didn’t want anyone to find out. It really makes it more exciting when it’s a surprise. As quickly as I left is as quick as I came back, you never know what will happen!
I’ve done so many roles and characters throughout my career, but Vicki’s role has been the one that I’ve really had a special place for in my heart. The show, the people, the role…so just to be able to come back for one episode and do it again and have something so shocking and the episode end on me was such a wonderful thing. I also got to meet Malese [Jow], who I never got to meet before, and I thought so highly of her. It was nice to go back and know who each other was.
It’s funny, I got the phone call about coming back to the show on April Fools Day. I literally in my head thought that my agents and managers were playing the cruelest joke on me right now, this is horrible. I waited all day for the call back to say ‘April Fools’, and then they just said ‘you have to stop this, we’re not joking, and we need to figure everything out.’ [laughs]
Tell me about your upcoming movie Keeping Up with the Randalls.
It’s a cute movie. Its fun for me to be able to have a movie that my little nephews can watch, they are 6 and 7. Vampire Diaries is a little scary for them. This is a movie I’ll be able to sit down with my whole family and watch. My co-star Thad Luckinbill [who is also on Nikita], was on The Bold and The Beautiful the same time I was, and we’ve been long time buddies. To be able to shoot a whole movie with my friend was so fun. We were always playing sports, and it’s a outdoorsy, down and dirty movie. We were always muddy. Its fun to watch, because this is one of the first movies where being pretty isn’t necessarily something that you have to be. It was very fun. I play a completely different role from Vicki. I play a fashion designer and a big people pleaser. I’m a really nice girl-next-door, and the family doesn’t like me because I’m too prissy and girly to do any of the things they normally do. I learn the lesson to not judge people. I grew up watching Hallmark movies, so I was very excited to be in one. It’s a good, wholesome summer movie.
What drew you to this film?
I remember sitting down with my manager, and him saying this is a really good movie, because its so unlike any character you usual play. In my business life, I always play the conniving, bitchy, drugged up or I’m a whore, which I think is interesting and fun as an actress. But this is a chance for me to show people that I don’t just do those roles, I can do other roles and carry a whole movie doing that. It was fun for me to be able to do something light-hearted and truer to who I am. Those devilish characters push me as an actress, but this was a role I hadn’t don’t before. Thad and I have the same agent, and he said if you do it, Thad will do it, and that sealed the deal.
It is a classic Hallmark tearjerker?
Not really. It’s very lighthearted, and there’s always a life lesson. It’s funny, and it has a lot more spunk and comedy than any other Hallmark movie I’ve seen. I think they’re giving us some things they usually don’t. I actually think men would love this movie just as much as women. Don’t expect tears.
You play a fashion designer, who are some of your favorite designers?
Oh gosh. I have so many that I absolutely love. I’m a big Dolce and Gabbana fan. Candace [Accola] is really into vintage shopping, so she’s really taught me to have a good eye and look for vintage clothes and unique. She’s really broadened my eyes when it comes to fashion.
When it comes to fashion, when I’m just running around from day to day, I have just jeans and a tee shirt, or a little sundress. I’m a beach girl, so we wore our bathing suits to school. Just comfortable, free and be who you are. Just live.
What do you like to use on your skin?
I’m a big fan of Kiehl’s. I swear by the avocado eye cream. It’s the only thing I’ve found that keeps my eyes looking young and refreshed, even with traveling. It’s the perfect size. I also put Eucerin SPF30 on my skin everyday because I want it to be healthy, and not get cancer.
As far as makeup, I love the Bobbi Brown corrector. It helps with every little blemish and dark circle. That is something that you’ll always find in my purse. I’m really into this new nail polish color by Essie called Lollipop. It’s bright red, and it looks good on any color skin. It really pops and it’s perfect for summer. Another thing I always have is my Burt’s Bees chapstick, I’m addicted.
You have an amazing figure! How do you keep in shape?
I enjoy going to the gym and running on the treadmill. When you go regularly, you’re body needs it. When you keep the hours we keep when shooting, it’s great for stress to just go to the gym and clear your mind. I keep active a lot. I ride my bike a lot too. I think as long as you keep active, you stay healthy. My family also builds muscle very quickly, if we lift weights, the muscle stays on our body for a while. That can be good, but it can also be not-so good, especially as a women. I don’t want to look like The Hulk. [laughs] I have to be careful, because I can start to look bulky. You have to find what works for your own body, but I swear by drinking a lot of water.
