Ian Somerhalder Weighs in on Damon and Elena's Future (VIDEO)

Damon and Elena took a big step forward, then a few steps back on The Vampire Diaries. With the 1920s dance heavy on Stefan-Elena moments, where does that leave Damon? It's not going to be an easy road for the senior Salvatore as the season three finale, airing May 10, nears. But the following question was posed to Ian Somerhalder: How would Damon deal with the fact that Elena could choose either brother (or even neither)?

"He'd probably run around the streets of Mystic Falls like the roadrunner," Somerhalder told The Hollywood Reporter when he stopped by the THR Cover Lounge. On the flip side, if things don't work out in Damon's favor, he'll get over it... eventually. "If she doesn't, it's going to take a couple days, a couple bottles of booze, a couple sorority girls. He'll get back on track, but every time he's around her, he'll still feel that same thing,"
he added.

"While her and Stefan are sitting having steak dinner, holding hands, he'll just be in the corner seething." How realistic is it that Damon would one day let Elena go, for her own good and his? "One would hope" he does, Somerhalder admitted. "If you're 170 years old, it's probably not the best idea to date an 18-year-old girl. There's some generational gaps in there, I think it's illegal..."
