"I always have so much fun going on that show," the actress tells Zap2it of filming the episode. "I've known the whole cast for a very long time now, and they're always so welcoming and sweet. Unfortunately -- or, actually, fortunately -- I had to start my 'Army Wives' role, so I was only on the set for one day, to finish up the episode."
A recently published article suggested DeVitto would prefer not to work with Wesley, but she explains "that was sort of taken out of context. We had both done 11 episodes of the show and hadn't worked together on it yet, and I said, 'Maybe that's a blessing in disguise. Maybe working together every day and then going home together would be a little too much, so maybe I prefer it this way.'
"Now that we've worked together, I actually said to my publicist, 'I wish I'd never said that!' I had such a great time working with him, and it was so amazing, I totally take back everything I said. We just have such a mutual respect for each other, and a similar work ethic."
The daughter of longtime Billy Joel drummer Liberty DeVitto, the actress maintains she's always interested in knowing what's happening on "The Vampire Diaries." She says she'd be prone to sneak a peek at her spouse's scripts, "but I have so much reading of my own to do ... no. We do run lines together, though, so I get to have my fix of what's going on when we do that."
Even with her plentiful current activity, DeVitto says her role she hears about most often from fans is "crazy nanny Carrie," from her two-season run on the now-finished "One Tree Hill."She muses that she's doing "Army Wives" production "in Charleston (S.C.) now, and it's a big college town -- and daily, people come up to me and it's,'"One Tree Hill!" "One Tree Hill!"
"'And I get tweeted about it, still," DeVitto adds. "She was psycho, so I think that's why it stays in people's minds. I'm telling you, it's insane. And awesome, too. I feel like I'm going to be 75 years old and people will still be asking, 'Excuse me. Are you Nanny Carrie?'"
